Waydack Standard Smooth Dachshunds

Bruce Jenkins has a lifetime experience with dogs, breeding, showing, judging and boarding. Bruce is an all-breeds judge, licenced by the Kennel Union of Southern Africa, and judges all over the world when time permits.

Standard Smooth-haired Dachshunds have been in the family for years and we bring with us a lifetime involvement in the breed.

Over the years this kennel has been home to many top winners,I joined my parents in the 1950s and became more seriously involved from the 1960s. A successful father/son partnership existed for many years and on the passing of my father, I have carried on with the breeding programmes. We always had Standard

Smooth Dachshunds from the very beginning and tried one venture into Miniature Smooths, namely Ch. & Ch. (UK) Silvae Pay For of Waydack, who went BIS at the SA Dachshund Club show in 1981 Nowdays we only have Standard Smooths.

Business commitments cut our wings for a long time but we have always managed to finish in the Top 100 dogs All-breeds every year. In 2008 we relocated to our new home in the bosveld so showing this year has been minimal and no breeding has taken place.

Now that we are settled we will consider breeding a bitch later in the year.

The 1960s saw a number of imports from the famous Silvae kennel in UK . Which formed the foundation of our breeding and showing stock for many years.

In the last 20 years we have had a number of very successful imports from the famous Boondox, Laddland and Legibach kennels in USA, who all feature in our current breeding lines and show dogs.

Our aim, at Waydack, is to breed top quality dogs, sound in structure and temperament. We only breed for ourselves and occasionally have puppies available for other breeders and pet homes. We simply hate having to part with our puppies, which we find very stressful, so only breed every couple of years. The highlight of our breeding and showing has been that we owned/bred 3 generations of All-breed Best In Show winners in direct line. With a Dachshund it is difficult enough to win Best In Show with one dog, so to us this is no mean achievement. We take this opportunity of thanking fellow exhibitors for their help and assistance at shows in recent years as handling more than one dog at a time is impossible without help. We offer, for your interest, a selection of dogs we have owned over the years.
